Worship Band Auditions

At New Valley Church we have a vision and desire to continuously grow our worship ministry. Auditions are the method we use for evaluating skill level. We try to create a comfortable atmosphere for our audition process as much as possible, and we value honesty when it comes to evaluating gifting and striving for excellence.

If you have a heart to lead others in worship and feel you are skilled with your voice or musical instrument, we would love to get to know you and pursue an audition with you! Please read the expectations and requirements for participation on the worship team below.

Basic Requirements

To be eligible for the worship band, you must consider New Valley Church to be your home church, and have attended regularly for at least 3 months. You should be in agreement with us regarding the gospel, our vision and values, and our overall music/worship style. We are looking for individuals who will take their role on the team seriously and view it as an opportunity to serve the Lord and the local church using their God-given gifts. Maintaining a humble, teachable attitude is extremely important as the worship team is not a platform for showcasing individual talents, but rather a place of service to the congregation.

Previous experience on a worship team or in a band can be helpful but is not required. While there are similar principles used in many live music situations, every band or team experience is different. Be prepared to learn new ways of doing things regardless of previous experience.

Expectations

The time requirement for worship band members is approximately 7.5 hours per week when scheduled (this does not include personal practice or travel time). Included in the requirements are Tuesday night rehearsals (7:00-9:30pm), and Sunday morning rehearsal and services (6:45-11:45pm). Team members are not required to sit through both sermons, but they are required to attend at least one entire service on weeks they serve. Team members are also expected to attend church whenever possible on weeks they are not scheduled in the worship band.

We make every attempt to not over-schedule team members and to work within their availability.

Available Positions

At New Valley Church we play a focused style of music within our worship bands. As such, we utilize instruments and musicians that we feel best complement our style. The following is a list of the standard instruments/positions for each band. We maintain an openness to considering other instruments and musicians as well, so if you play something not on the list below, we’d still love to connect with you and discuss whether pursuing an audition makes sense.
